Research Collections Library – University of North Texas, Denton, Texas
Elements performed an analysis of an existing 25,000-square-foot abandoned warehouse facility acquired by the University of North Texas for the development of a Research Collections Library (RCL) to address the immediate aggressive growth in research collections. Due to the stringent environmental requirements for a facility of this type, the entire building envelope was slated for retrofit for this use compliance as well as new current energy code requirements.
Field observations were performed, along with soils and structural testing to document existing conditions and provide research information required to develop a Feasibility Study for the client to use in their decision making. In addition to the Feasibility Study, Elements provided Programming, Schematic Design, Cost Estimating, Construction Document and Construction Administration services. The overall goal was renovating the facility into a climate-controlled library environment with some critical shelving and workspace functionality.
